Sylvan Hills Spring Newsletter

For over 70 years Sylvan Hills Christian Service Camp has offered a unique opportunity for campers to experience God through its summer camp programs. For many children, as well as adults, their summer camp week in one of the most anticipated events of the year. With all the uncertainty in our world today due to COVID-19 we wanted to make certain that our campers were still offered the opportunity to grow closer with Jesus this summer. We are excited to announce that Sylvan Hills will be hosting virtual camp weeks for the 2020 summer season. In keeping with the Pennsylvania health guidelines and for everyone’s well-being, the Board of Directors determined that it would be best to avoid having in-person camp weeks. This decision was made with thoughtful consideration, discussion and prayer to ensure the safety of our campers, parents, and volunteers.

Although virtual summer camp will look a little different than physical camp, our deans are creatively constructing content that will allow campers to have the most authentic camp experience possible. Each week will look a little different, but each will encompass structures and activities similar to what would be normally experienced.

All content will be presented on the website on the date/s of each camp week along with further instructions from your dean/s. Online registration will open on June 1st at www.sylvanhills.org/summer2020 and will be FREE for everyone who enrolls. The original schedule has been modified so please note any changes that have been made in your calendars. Due to the nature of our summer camps this year Special Needs week will be cancelled until further notice.

Be on the lookout for more updates on our website and Facebook page. Introducing our new Administrative Assistant Liz Dechow! Liz will be aiding the Camp Director and Treasurer in some of their administrative tasks to better serve our campers, parents and retreat groups. We are thrilled to have her on our team and cannot wait to see how God will use her in the furtherance of his kingdom.

Liz Dechow is a native of Virginia Beach and Labor and Industrial Relations graduate of Penn State.  Liz and her husband, Chad, moved to Centre County 16 years ago.  They have five children: Calvin, Isaac, Owen, Bridget and Luke. Liz and her family are members of Watermarke Church in Bellefonte.  In her free time, Liz enjoys camping with her family, watching her children participate in the county fair, and reading.

Sylvan Hills Christian Service Camp has become an official 501c-3 organization! We want to thank all of those who were involved in the process and the hard work they put into procuring our new status. We hope that our new 501c-3 status will aid us in many areas to better our facilities, grounds and programs.

We want to thank again all of those who made the purchasing of our new Kubota tractor possible. It is an essential piece of equipment in the efficient maintenance of our campus. By cutting the mowing time by close to half it allows the Camp Director to focus more of his time on other tasks. Thank you again for all of your support!
